Tossing out the words “good female hygiene tips” into oblivion is a must, along with your last used dental dam or tampon. That being said, individuals with vaginas should never skip on maintaining their genital health— it’s vitally important!

As we approach our forties, it is essential to keep up with good feminine hygiene and ensure that our bodies are being well taken care of.

There’s no doubt we face a lot of daily challenges—from looking after our children to making sure that all the bills are paid on time. While these struggles can be overwhelming at times, they are often conquerable, and looking after ourselves is integral in helping us remain centred around the matters that matter.

Taking care of our genitals is essential for staying knowledgeable and assured in our bodies. Looking after female hygiene doesn’t have to be stressful or demanding, it can be a pleasure!

In this blog post, I’m giving you some invaluable insights into what every forty-something woman should know about her distinct needs when it comes to gynaecological wellness so that you remain healthy, vigorous, and confident through life’s peaks and troughs.

Female Hygiene tips

Clean Your Bits

While most commercially sold scented female hygiene products may seem appealing, be wary that they could cause harm to your female area.

This is due to their ingredients of glycerol, perfumes and antiseptics that can interfere with the healthy balance of bacteria in your vagina. Furthermore, an extreme shift in pH balance has been known to create itchiness and even encourage the growth of bad bacteria.

Instead, use a specially created intimate hygiene gel or soap-free wash.

Additionally, make sure to clean the area around your vagina with lukewarm water for extra care and attention.

Pee After Sex

Taking a few moments to pee after sex can be beneficial since it helps flush out any bacteria that might have travelled up the urethra.

When you pee, your urine stream instantly cleanses and flushes bacteria that could enter the urethra and cause infections like UTIs.

Peeing before sex can even contribute towards better stimulation because it decompresses the bladder for comfort.

Avoid Tight Clothes and Underwear

Unventilated and tight clothing manufactured from synthetic material can cause perspiration and impede air circulation. And even worse, this buildup of moisture may trigger the propagation of bacteria leading to potential yeast infections.

Thus, it’s best to keep away from wearing spandex or any other close-fitting apparel for long periods as well as wet swimsuits that fail to dry up quickly.

Additionally, cotton undergarments are highly recommended because they offer ample breathability compared with synthetic fabrics. Finally, never forget to switch out your workout clothes once you’re done exercising; this will help prevent sweat accumulation along with the proliferation of microorganisms!

Practice Safe Sex

By engaging in unprotected sexual intercourse, you open yourself up to an array of negative health consequences; STIs such as chlamydia, gonorrhoea, herpes and warts are just a few examples female hygiene issues.

Fortunately for us, condoms and other barrier methods exist that offer essential protection from these ailments- not only that but they also help avoid unwanted pregnancies! Before using one however it is vital to make sure no allergies or sensitivities exist towards the material used in them.

Additionally, be cognizant of the expiry date on any condom before use -it could save your life!

Don’t Ignore Female Hygiene Signs of Infection

If you detect any indications of infection, such as an unpleasant odour, substantial discharge, discoloured discharge, irritation or any other symptoms—seek medical attention immediately. Ignoring an infection can result in female hygiene detrimental health issues; thus it is essential to act quickly and address the problem promptly.

In addition to these signs pointing toward infections, similar discomforting sensations may also be associated with more serious underlying health concerns.

Keep Your Panties Dry

If you don’t clean your vagina after using the restroom, it can cause moisture to accumulate in your panties and lead to an unpleasant scent. In addition, this wet environment will be a hotspot for bacteria growth- so make sure you dry off with toilet paper or another soft cloth afterwards! This way, you’ll stay fresh and protect yourself from germs at the same time.

Limit the Shaving of Your Public Hair

While frequent shaving of public hair is a popular habit among women, it´s important to recognize the fact that this hair serves an essential purpose. It not only safeguards our vaginas from bacterial infection but also shields us against uncomfortable and excessive sweating. Public hair works as a natural barrier for protection in these areas which makes it invaluable.

If you’re going through peri/menopause

The vulva skin may become drier and require additional hydration.

For female hygiene, keep your skin moisturized from the inside out and outside in:

  • vitamin E
  • vitamin C
  • multivitamin
  • collagen protein

Conclusion

To be aware of any potential issues with your vulva, it is essential to become acquainted with its usual state.

By devoting some time to exploring and observing the way your private area typically appears, smells, and feels–perhaps in a warm bath or shower while sniffing through clean panties; inspecting yourself using an illuminated hand mirror; engaging in self-exploration via touch or fingering; as well as making regular appointments at the doctor’s office.
